Imlil and the Kik Plateau, Morocco (day trip)
Imlil is situated around 50 miles south of Marrakech, in a west-facing valley in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. This peaceful village is an ideal base for hikers and trekkers of all levels, from the serious 4000 meter climb to the summit of Jebel Toubkal, (the highest peak in North Africa), to more moderate or basic treks around the surrounding valleys. We leave Marrakech at 9.00am, when your English-speaking driver will pick you up from your hotel, and set off for Imlil Marrakech Morocco. On the way we travel through Moulay Ibrahim gorge and Asni, well-known for its weekly Berber market or “souk” which takes place every Saturday.
On arrival at Imlil, we leave the car behind and begin a gentle hike through the valley, passing through breath-taking landscapes and charming Berber villages built of adobe and stones, where the lifestyle is simple and unique. We stop for lunch break. After lunch there is the opportunity, for those who wish to, to continue our hike and make a complete circuit of the valleypassing throughmore villages dotted around the foothills of the mountains.
We drive back to Marrakesh by a different route, passing over the Kik Plateau (1800m), an unforgettable place with stunning views of the mountains and valleys and very popular with Para gliders.
On our journey back, wepassbymany more Berber villages as well as the beautiful lake LallaTakerkoust with it’s the imposing dam. We will make plenty of stops on the way to admire the scenery and take photos, before arriving back in Marrakech.
