Imperial Cities of Morocco (4days)

Day 1: Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat

Imperial Cities of Morocco
Your English-speaking driver will meet you at your Marrakech accommodation in a private air-conditioned vehicle and we set off to our first stop, at Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city and economic capital.
Here we will visit the splendid Hassan II Mosque; the largest in Africa and 7th largest in the world, with its towering minaret, which at 210 meters is the world’s tallest.Next we continue to Rabat, Morocco’s second largest city, situated on the Atlantic coast. Here we will have time to visit the city’s many attractions, including the beautiful Mausoleum of Mohamed V, the imposing Hassan Tower (all that remains of a once-splendid ancient mosque), ChellahGardens and Necropolis, and the OudayaKasbah, before spending the night in a hotel.

Day 2: Rabat – Volubilis – Meknes – Fez

Imperial Cities of Morocco

We leave Rabat in the morning and travel to the magnificent Roman ruins of Volubils, the Mauritanian capital founded in the 3rd century B.C., and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Next we travel to another UNESCO World Heritage site, the city of Meknes. Here we will visit such sites as the huge and beautifully intricate “Bab Mansour” monumental gate, and the spectacular Mausoleum of Moulay Ismil. This is one of the most impressive buildings in the city. Depending on the time of our visit, we may be able to go inside and view the beautifully decorative tomb.

Finally we travel to Fez, the oldest city in Morocco and home to the world’s oldest university. This is where we will end our second day and check into a riad or hotel where we will spend the next two nights.

Day 3: Fez

Imperial Cities of Morocco

We spend our third day visiting the city of Fez, where the strolling through the old town or Medina is like stepping back in time. This beautifully preserved medieval city is yet another UNESCO World Heritage site, with its magical maze of alleyways and bustling markets or souks, all surrounded by high wall.

Also worth visiting are: the Medersa(or religious schools) of el-AttarineandBouInania, with their fine examples of Merenid craftsmanship and fabulous views of the old city from the rooftop of el-Attarine; the Nejjarine fountainwith its beautiful mosaics; the El Karaouyine mosque, and the spectacular main gate of Baba Jloud.

Day 4: Fes – Marrakech

We leave Fez in the morning and set off towards Marrakech, passing through the cedar forests which are home to Barbary macaques.

Travelling through the High Atlas Mountains, we stop to enjoy some breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape, and to see the dramatic Ouzoud waterfalls, where the water tumbles down the cliffs from a height of over 110 meters, in a series of cascades over tiers of rocky ledges, to the river below.
We arrive back in Marrakech in the evening, where you will be dropped off at your riad or hotel.
